Safeguarding pet health by providing superior nutritional standards

A series of research experiments were carried out at the University of Illinois, Division of Nutritional Sciences, USA to assess the impact of including HP 300 in pet diets.

Palatability studies

Dogs were given the choice between kibble with 0% HP 300 and 12% HP 300. The 12% HP 300 diet increased the average consumption of kibble and was the preferred choice among the dogs in the study (Figure 1).

Figure 1. Counts for daily preference by first choice for 0% HP 300 (light green) vs. 12% HP 300 (dark green).

Total tract digestibility

Apparent total tract digestibility was determined for varying rates of HP 300 inclusion. Replacing 4-8% of poultry by-product with HP 300 was shown to have an increase in total tract digestibility.

Table 1. Total tract digestibility of nutrients and energy of diets with increasing level of HP 300.

Fecal output and consistency

Fecal output and consistency were monitored with increasing inclusion levels of HP 300. Fecal scores indicate that consistency of feces was maintained with all inclusion levels.
